Hello! My name is Jerry. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am 28 years old and married my soulmate on December 4, 2004 (see below for info on how we met). I attend Unionville United Pentecostal Church (www.uupc.net) where my father-in-law, Dexter, is the pastor. I am in the second semester of my Junior year at Liberty University in the School of Business. I am working toward my B.S. in Business Management and ultimately (Lord willing) my MBA. And now for my work history.....after I graduated high school in 1994, I worked for the local school system for 9 years. The first 3 years as a monitor on a special needs school bus (helping the kids while going to and from school) and the next 6 as a school bus driver - therefore you know I have nerves of steel....hahaha. After I left there I worked as vault teller and customer service rep at Old National Bank. When they decided to close down the banking center where I was working, I went on the hunt for my next gig. Quite honestly I was glad that job came to an end...I loved the people I worked with at the little branch in a tiny town just outside of Bloomington, but being a lifetime banker, I discovered, was not what I wanted to be. The bank was going to keep me around but transfer me and I just decided not to stick around any longer. That brings me to my current job that I started in July of 2004. I am a Financial Counselor in Patient Financial Services at Bloomington Hospital (www.bhhs.org) and I love it here. I visit the uninsured patients in their rooms and talk to them and assist them in getting applications for financial assistance signed. It is a great job because I get to combine my love for business with my desire to contribute and help people who cannot help themselves. It is a good feeling at the end of the day to know that I helped someone. I am not in the clinical, life saving area of the hospital but I hope that through what I do I help ease their minds and lower their stress level even a little bit. My goal is to continue working at the hospital or some organization that helps those in need. I would love to work someday for an organization that deals with the mentally disabled and helps them adjust and deal with living and working in society.

The 411 On My Site...
On the "Meet My Family" page you can (you guessed it!) find out all about my family and even see a pic of me and my brothers and sister. On my "This and That" page read along as I ramble on about nothing in particular. Check out my "Odds and Ends" page for my revealing answers to a special survey and other (you guessed it again!) odds and ends. The drive on over to my "Ode To The School Bus Driver" and be sure to check out "Christopher's Photo Studio" - a page full of photos that my nephew, the aspiring photographer, took for his class at school. Check out the "College Daze" page for info on the universities that me and my nephews are attending. Read on...if you dare! |

How I Met My Sweetheart....
We have both lived in Bloomington and knew some of the same people are entire lives. My cousins went to church with her...my mom and her dad and aunt grew up together. I went to school with her brother, little sister and her cousins and her aunt was my school teacher for about 10 years but we never had met. I just knew her name. Then, last year on April 1st I got a call from my cousin (one that had previously went to church with her) and she said that she had been talking to a couple of Juli's good friends and they thought that they should play matchmaker and introduce me to Juli. A dinner party was arranged for the following Monday (April 5th) at David & Staci's house (Juli's friends) - that way we would not be thrown together all by ourselves. Well, it was love at first sight. We hit it off and that Friday we went on our first "official" date and then went back to her condo to watch a movie and ended the evening with a kiss. I was in love! The following Monday (the 12th - one week after we met) I told her I loved her and May 9th (one month after our first kiss) I proposed to her while sitting in the tree swing under a several hundred year old hard maple tree in the side yard at my Dad's house. It was perfect. We agreed to hold off announcing the engagement until we had her ring which took about 2 weeks. The only people that knew were her parents, her 3 siblings, my Dad and my nephew, Caleb (who was best man at the wedding). We were married December 4th - my brother, Scott, and her Dad, Dexter, were co-officiants. There were 14 attendants (7 guys & 7 gals), 2 junior bridesmaids, a ring bearer, flower girl, 350 or so guests and enough songs to make it feel like an Osmond Family Christmas special (and the theme was Winter Wonderland - complete with trees and faux snow covering the sanctuary floor - okay they were white sheets but it looked like snow). It was the happiest day of my life followed by a short trip to Gatlinburg and then the "real" honeymoon was a 7 day Caribbean cruise on Carnival that we went on the first week of January. I look forward to growing old with Juli and watching our kids and grandkids grow....I cannot wait until we have out first baby--then my life will be complete.

A Little Bit More About Me....
On January 17th, 2003, I decided I had been overweight for long enough and had to do something about it. I began exercising and watching fat and calorie intake. Within about 10 or 11 months I had dropped about 125 pounds to get me to the weight that I have maintained for almost a year and a half now (about 225 lbs). I work out at least 5 or 6 days a week, lift weights and walking on the treadmill. I allow myself the occasional pizza night and some take out but not the same kind of stuff I used to eat. Funny thing is after changing my habits for so long I now don't really like the old stuff I used to eat. I crave low fat p-nut butter and fat free cottage cheese. Anyone wanting to lose weight can easily because of all the low fat/no fat/low cal items in the grocery. Main thing is to think of it as a total lifestyle change - NOT A DIET! I am by no means an Adonis now but I am not the size I used to be and I never will be again (because I am totally obsessed with my weight and the fear I will regain). On a fun note - I was featured with 2 other weight loss success stories in the local paper in January of 2003. That was my 15 minutes of fame. I enjoyed it while it lasted (even got to give my autograph to one person) and the boy at the local convenience store recognized me when I went in to buy a newspaper the evening that the story ran. That was cool! |
I Wanna Give A Shout Out To My Dad....
and his lovely fiance, Shay. Four years after my mom passed away, Dad has been able to discover happiness and love with the new lady in his life, Shay. Shay has 2 daughters, Britney (20) and Ashley (almost 18). Dad and Shay are set to get married by my brother, Scott, on March 5th. Sometime in the near future I hope to have pics of Shay and my new sisters on the site. I am so happy for Dad - he is a great father and my best friend and he deserves all of the happiness in the world. He has found a great lady to share his life with.
